The rule
Ahpra's practice guidelines for practitioners who perform non-surgical cosmetic procedures took effect on 2 September 2025. This is our summary; the guideline itself says exactly who it covers and has the full wording.
What the guidelines say, in short
- No free or discounted procedures for promotion. Practitioners must not provide or offer free or discounted procedures to prospective or existing patients, including influencers or social media users, to promote cosmetic procedures or services.
- No recruitment commissions. No commission or other financial inducement to anyone for recruiting people to have cosmetic procedures.
- A live consultation every time. Prescribing a cosmetic injectable needs an in-person or video consultation each time. Prescribing asynchronously by text, email or online form isn't acceptable practice.
What it means for your clinic
- Win-back and recall offers for cosmetic procedures can't be a free or discounted procedure. Offer a consultation instead.
- No "text us to book your top-up" that skips a live consultation for a prescription injectable.
