The rule

The ACCC says any information or claim a business makes about its products must be accurate, truthful and based on reasonable grounds, and a business must be able to prove any claim it advertises. That includes information on prices, images and descriptions of what's offered, claims about value, benefits, qualities or performance, and shipping and delivery times. It applies to advertising, packaging, quotes and what staff say.

What it means for your store

  • Every product detail an AI tool writes for you must be checked against the real product.
  • AI-made images must show the product as it really is.
  • Don't publish a claim you can't back up.
